Harry Goes to New Orleans to Survey Damage... [06 Sep 2005|01:59pm]

bravesbelle
NEW YORK - Traveling by boat and wading through foul-smelling water, Harry Connick Jr. surveyed the damage by Hurricane Katrina to his father's New Orleans home.

It wasn't as bad as Connick had feared. "It looks like pop's house made it through," he said. "Everything looks like it's pretty dry."

Connick returned to New Orleans Monday, a trip documented for NBC's "Today" show and aired Tuesday. He had traveled to the city last week.

His father, Harry Connick Sr., served as district attorney of New Orleans for 29 years before retiring in 2003. Last week, the 37-year-old jazz singer said all of his immediate family were safe.

Like many, Connick wanted to return to protect his family's house: "I don't want to get looted by the one-eyed rogue crackhead out there."

Connick performed Friday night on "A Concert for Hurricane Relief," which aired on NBC and other networks. He has agreed to be honorary chair of Habitat for Humanity's "Operation Home Delivery," a long-term rebuilding plan for the hurricane-damaged Gulf Coast.

The trip through the flooded city left the singer — who had developed his music in jazz bands and at clubs in the French Quarter_ shaken.

"I forgot I was a musician," he said. "It's so much bigger than me and bigger than all of us."

Nevertheless, with the floodwaters slowly receding, Connick saw reason for optimism. After the sight of a bar open on Bourbon Street, "I said, `Man, if this isn't a sign of New Orleans coming back to its former state.'"

Hello Everyone, just joined the community and wanted to introduce myself. I'm Amy, 27, and live in North Carolina. I have been a Harry fan for many many years. I can't remember what exactly turned me on to his music but I can't seem to hear it enough.

Hi, new member. I'm Ames and I'm 19.

I live in Brisbane, Australia, and I saw Harry in concert two nights ago. Needless to say it was fansnaztic...he is such a funny guy. He moved some people who were in crappy seats into some spare ones right up the front, and invited a girl up on stage to have a photo taken with him.

I'm a piano player...and I am dying to learn how to play Come By Me. But I can't find the music to it anywhere...and it's killing me.

So does anybody know where I could find this music, whether on the net or a hard copy? Even a midi would be good, because I have a program that can transcribe it.

Cheers.

[ mood | curious ]

I just saw on TicketMaster.com that tickets for Harrys June 26th show go on sale tomorrow at 10am for Internet pre-orders then for regular internet sales on Saturday morning. Anyone know what the difference is? The FAQ made it sound like I would need a special password for the Friday sale?

Just stopping in to introduce myself. I've been a fan since "When Harry Met Sally" and I saw him sing "It had to be you" on Arsenio Hall. Sigh... I saw him in concert for "She".

Not a big fan of his performances on Will and Grace but just about everything else he touches is gold. Favorite album is the first I actually bought of his "25". I could play Old Cowhand until my cd player wears out.

yeah, so we were watching the Thanksgiving Day parade and Peter Cinciotti (or however you spell his name) was on. My sister said that she thinks he's going to be the next Harry Connick Jr.

I took off my shoe and beat her.

Hola fellow Harry fans! Glad to find a community for him!

I've been a fan of him for quite some time, thanks to my sister. I fell in love with his voice, and then after seeing some photographs of him, I practically crapped my pants.

Anyway, just stopping by to say "Hello!" and introduce myself!
